Going Anonymous

Posted: February 22, 2012 in Blogging, Freedom of Speech

Following the realisation that Mark Simpson had taken my IP address and banned me from viewing his blog, I have had a crash course in becoming an internet nerd.

I installed a TOR browser which enables me to surf the net anonymously* and to access Simpson’s blog without him knowing it is me.

I then set up a new wordpress blog and archived all his content onto it. This is so I can link to his work and use it for reference without having to worry about whether I can access his site or not. Links to his blog no longer work when I put them in blogposts and articles. I think broken links are shoddy and so I found a way to avoid them.

I also found a detailed guide to blogging anonymously. I haven’t followed the instructions as I don’t think anyone else is planning to ban me anytime soon. But others asked about TOR and this is a good introduction:

*TOR does not guarantee fully anonymous surfing of the net. But it’s a start!

UPDATE:

while I am doing tecky stuff, this notice about Google seems important. They are changing their privacy policy so they can collect a lot more info about you from your web history. This tells you how to stop them from doing it. but you have to implement the changes BEFORE MARCH 1st for it to work.

Hmm I believe that is tech that hackers use – so the IP can’t be traced. Interesting

Not that this makes you a hacker of course heh.

Hacker? That is being generous. You may not like it but the way I see it you are definately showing signs of a stalker. :(

They dont have a face for concern. Close enough. I like your writing but not this side of it.

I don’t share your concern Mr. Tit – it’s not like our dear author hasn’t explored all her/these contradictions in full view. But I concede your larger point – writers are a crazy bunch!
